Pumpkin Pie Jello

For many, pumpkin pie is synonymous with Thanksgiving and this jello recipe was inspired by my mother’s own recipe for pumpkin pie, served every year for turkey day without fail.  Its made with canned pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. A bottom “crust” is made from melted chocolate chips.  This is […]

Candy Corn Jello

For the last in a series of Halloween jellos made for Kitchen Daily, I made these tropical fruit flavored versions of everyone’s favorite Halloween treat, Candy Corns.  I used sweetened condensed milk, with orange and pineapple flavored gelatin.  A second, larger version of this jello mold was created for this weekend’s festivities, only with the […]

Bleeding Brains Jello

Halloween is drawing near and with it I created another Halloween jello idea for Kitchen Daily. This strawberry preserve filled brain is sure to scare little kids and gross out adults at your Halloween bash.  Not to fear, this creamy peach flavored jello mold tastes much better than it looks and is easy to create. Click […]

Cappuccino Flan

I found a box of this D’Gari brand cappuccino flan desert at a grocery store in Clinton Hill and had to try it. I added my own flair by submerging a chocolate wafer in the flan while it was still liquid to create a cakey chocolate vein in the  center of the desert. I love […]

Petite Watermelons

With the passing of the Labor Day weekend and summer drawing to an end, I made these mini watermelons to commemorate the occasion. Made with lime rinds, strawberries, and vodka with little black sesame seeds, these make fun little “jello shots”.  I have seen versions of this all over the web, most recently and notably on […]

Anise Jello

Recently Art and Marty took a vacation to Mexico and brought back an assortment of Mexican jello for me. Included among usual tropical fruit flavors was the more unusual anise flavored gelatin. Anise is a seed that tastes similar to sweet liquorish. I topped off the gelatin with wafers sandwiched with Nutella hazelnut cocoa spread.  […]

Jello Marzipan

This recipe came from the classic Joys of Jell-O recipe book and boasts a new way to make the old fashioned confection. These strawberry, cherry, orange, and banana shaped candies are molded from ground coconut and almonds and are flavored with the corresponding fruit flavored gelatin. Whole cloves and mint leaves put the finishing touches […]

The Gelatin Salad Selector

This nifty recipe book was sent to me by a reader who found it in the depths of his parent’s house in Nebraska. Each page features a different meat dish with a suggestion for a proper gelatin salad pairing. If the primary suggestion is not to your liking a wheel can be turned at the […]

Cookies & Cream Jello

This jello is another in the series of ice cream flavored treats.  This one was made for Sarah‘s BBQ and housewarming party for her new Brooklyn abode with a much coveted yard. Its made with vanilla bean ice cream and sweetened condensed milk.  Its crowned with mini Oreo cookies and crust of crushed Oreos.  A […]

Mango Melon Surprise

(The surprise is rum!) For Rebecca‘s birthday this year I made this fruity and festive summer mold with mango gelatin, mango rum, and cantaloupe.  I found these mini cookie cutters at a shop in Chinatown and they were perfect for cutting the cantaloupe into fun star and flower shapes for the mold.  The folks at […]

Mint Chocolate Chip Jello

Recently I took the Jello Show on the road to my sister Kateri‘s in Minneapolis for my niece Sydney’s high school graduation party. My sister found this sunflower mold at a thrift store and had it waiting for me. Jello’s popularity in the mid-west has never wavered since the 60’s and that was evident by […]

Berry 4th of July Jello

For the holiday weekend I made this festive star-shaped mold with blueberries and strawberries set in a layer of clear gelatin.  The white base layer is Guanabana flavored gelatin brought back for me from Mexico by Art. (More exotic Mexican flavors to follow). The flavor was fruity and refreshing, perfect for the very hot weekend. […]

Jello Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant

For my entry in the year’s Gowanus Studio Space Jell-O Mold Competition I made this jello and plastic replica of the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. A striking piece of engineering and architecture located a mere 500 yards from my apartment. The facility has been a point of interest for me since moving in to […]

Jell-O Mold Design Competition

This weekend at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn is the 2nd Annual Jell-O Mold Competition! Competitors will battle it out for mold supremacy and my entry will be in the running. I am very exciting to see what I am up against as last year’s winners were very crafty. Come on out if you are […]

Jello Poke Cake

My friend Kelly LOVES cake. So to commemorate her birthday this year I made this Jello Poke Cake.  It is a basic white cake with holes poked in it and liquid jello poured in and allowed to set. Typically it is made with fruit favors, as this cake’s top layer is strawberry, but I wanted […]

Rainbow Jello

This year for John’s 5th annual Easy Breezy Birthday Brunch I made one of the more difficult and beautiful jello creations, the Rainbow Jello mold.  This classic favorite is compromised of 10 layers and 5 different flavors, each with a clear fruity layer and a creamy opaque layer of sweetened condensed milk.  As you can […]

LOST Jello

A fan since the first episode aired, I had to commemorate the series finale of LOST with jello. For a LOST themed BBQ and finale viewing party I made this representation of the island with pistachio (for the land), coconut (for the sandy beach), and blueberry (for the water).

Cranberry Pomegranate Salad (with Vodka)

Triple berry salad is a classic Jello recipe, but mine has a few twists. This sparkling treat is made with cranberry gelatin and tart pomegranate juice, along with vodka and club soda and is filled with blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.  It was served at a birthday BBQ to a crowd who had never tired my […]

Mini Avocado Molds with Strawberries

This is a new take on a very old-school recipe and I found it quite tasty. Made with fresh avocado and mayo, it’s a savory mold much like guacamole (minus the onions). Strawberries offer a contrasting flavor and an attractive garnish.

Rhubard Rosemary Jello

My sister Kateri sent this recipe to me from Simply Recipes with a request to try it. This rhubarb flavored gelatin with hints of rosemary and chopped cucumbers borders on sweet and savory. Its not my typical jello mold but I really enjoyed it with a dollop of sour cream.
