Carrot Cake Jello

1006_TenSpeed_Hello Jello_CarrotCake_1113

You might be surprised to learn that The Jello Mold Mistress has a day-job. As much as I wish I could make jello full time, it doesn’t fully support my fancy lifestyle the high cost-of-living in Brooklyn. That said, I just landed a new day-job that I am very exciting about which means that jello has take a backseat for the past couple of weeks. But, with the holidays coming up, I wanted to take the time to post more stuff! This recipe can be found in my book Hello Jell-O!. It’s an autumn inspired jello that mixes carrots and cream cheese with the warm flavors of vanilla and cinnamon and would make a great addition to the Thanksgiving dessert table. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Blood Orange Margarita Shots

Blood Orange Margarita

Summer in the city can be brutal. August has brought with it a stifling heat wave that has lasted for weeks driving everyone, myself included, out of Brooklyn and onto the beach. Escape the heat with Blood Orange Margarita jello shots. Served in orange rinds, a mixture of silver tequila, triple sec, and refreshing blood orange San Pellergrino tastes just like summer and is the perfect way to enjoy booze on the beach…. just don’t drop them in the sand.

Year of the Snake

Year of the Snake

A couple of years ago for the Chinese New Year I made a Year of the Rabbit jello. According the the Chinese Zodiac, this year begins the Year of the Snake. I don’t have a snake mold so I used this goldfish mold to symbolize surplus in the new year. I made a traditional Chinese dessert recipe of almond gelatin and mandarin oranges with a red cherry eyeball. The red symbolizes good luck. The Year of the Snake begins on February 10th and if you are like me and you were born in 1965, 1977, 1989, or 2001 this is your year!

Tequila Sunrise

The summer sun has officially risen over Brooklyn and this Memorial Day weekend was a scorcher (which meant I got in some much needed beach and biking time). To celebrate the holiday weekend and the love of the sun I made this Tequila Sunrise jello which was served at a backyard BBQ. Its gradient layers are made with real orange juice, silver tequila, and grenadine with cherries. It was delicious. Happy summer everyone!

Color Me Jello

Inspired by the colorfully creative and talented Katie Sokoler and her blog Color Me Katie I decided to make a super bright and shiny Color Me Jello. And since it was Katie’s birthday and since she lives in my neighborhood, I decided I’d just pop by and present it to her. Tickled, she took some fun photos of me and my jello. For this jello I followed the Rainbow Mold recipe but added an extra top layer of suspended strawberries. Thanks for the wonderful photo Katie!
