Pie is always a welcome Thanksgiving Day dessert. This year add something other than pumpkin pie to the pie line up. A layer of sweetened condensed milk highlights contrasting layers of creamy chocolate pudding and sweet raspberry gelatin. Make your own pie crust or use one of those ready made crusts and you have an easy and yummy Thanksgiving Day dessert!
Whomever came up with the idea to put cold ice cream over warm pie was one smart cookie. So its only fitting that I pay homage this culinary pairing with boozy, bite-sized, versions of the real deal. These super cute jello shots in tiny pie crusts are made with spiced apple juice, vodka, and topped with mini scoops of jiggly vanilla ice cream. This recipe would also work with whiskey or some of that homemade apple pie moonshine. These jello shots were served at a Memorial Day rooftop BBQ but, as American as Apple Pie, they would also make a festive 4th of July summer treat.
Sadly the holidays are over and now all we have to look forward to is a long, cold winter… and jello! An adult version of the classic childhood favorite, this pudding from scratch is made with ripe banana, sweetened condensed milk, and a splash of bourbon. Spiced with cinnamon and garnished with mini vanilla wafers, the flavor is sweet and warm. This dessert is perfect for keeping warm during those longer winter months.
I made this jello a last year for St. Paddy’s day and it was such a hit it deserves revisiting. Green and minty with a little liqueur to warm the heart, this jello mold just feels like Christmas to me. Crème de menthe and sweetened condensed milk top off a chocolaty cookie crust. This recipe appears in my book Hello Jell-O! but I’m sharing it here as my holiday gift to you. Check out my book for many more recipes like this one (52 to be exact) and have a safe and happy holiday season!
A request came in months ago from my friend Angeli to work out recipe for Tiramisu Jello. After a little experimenting I found the perfect balance of mascarpone cheese and sweetened condensed milk wrapped around coffee soaked lady fingers dusted with chocolate. A recipe that is very similar to the real thing but with a little gelatin to hold it all together in a tidy little serving. Despite several reminders over the intervening months to make this jello, I managed to hold off the request to surprise her with it for her recent birthday. As you see this decadent dessert was met with much enthusiasm. The recipe for this appears in my new book. Happy Birthday Angeli!
Recently Art and Marty took a vacation to Mexico and brought back an assortment of Mexican jello for me. Included among usual tropical fruit flavors was the more unusual anise flavored gelatin. Anise is a seed that tastes similar to sweet liquorish. I topped off the gelatin with wafers sandwiched with Nutella hazelnut cocoa spread. The result was delicious. I brought the jello to work and served it to my co-workers for Laura‘s birthday.
This jello is another in the series of ice cream flavored treats. This one was made for Sarah‘s BBQ and housewarming party for her new Brooklyn abode with a much coveted yard. Its made with vanilla bean ice cream and sweetened condensed milk. Its crowned with mini Oreo cookies and crust of crushed Oreos. A cool and creamy compliment to a very hot summer.
