Taste of Greece

Since going on a trip of a lifetime to Greece last September, there have been a number of “reunion” get-togethers to maintain the bonds formed on the trip and celebrate various occasions (see my last post regarding our “Crete-mas” party). This occasion is to bid a fond farewell to Art (the birthday boy on said trip) and […]

Baby Shower Jello Shots

What goes better with office workers and babies-to-be but pink and blue jello shots? These were made especially for a surprise office baby shower for a couple of coworkers each having a baby, one boy and one girl. Watermelon flavored with creamy condensed milk and topped with little plastic babies, these were the highlight of the surprise and only a little creepy.

4th of July Strawberry Shots

Fireworks, BBQs, and Jello Shots!!! It’s time to celebrate American Independence and serving up vodka soaked sweet cream layered in cored out strawberries to all your closest friends and neighbors is the best way to do it.  These boozy bites will be devoured at a rooftop party hosted by my neighbors and myself tomorrow as we get a […]

Rainbow Cookie Shots

Tricolor cookies, Napoleon cookies, seven layer cookies, Italian flag cookies… regardless of what you call them, the almond flavored, chocolate covered, sponge cake squares I refer to as Rainbow Cookies are one of my very favorites (along with the Black & White Cookie and my mother’s chocolate chip). So, for a recent spring brunch party, I decided to make […]

Gingerbread Men

Two words: Cute and cute. (My favorite is the guy on the top right with the beady eyes and green star buttons!) Liven up Christmas this year with some jiggly, jello-y, gingerbread men, and women. Flavored with molasses, cinnamon, and nutmeg with a creamy base of sweetened condensed milk, these little ginger-jello people are as fun to decorate as […]

Raspberry Chocolate Pudding Pie

Pie is always a welcome Thanksgiving Day dessert. This year add something other than pumpkin pie to the pie line up. A layer of sweetened condensed milk highlights contrasting layers of creamy chocolate pudding and sweet raspberry gelatin. Make your own pie crust or use one of those ready made crusts and you have an […]

Jello False Teeth

My sister gave me this Frozen Smiles ice cube tray a year or two ago and I’ve been meaning to give it a try. These jello dentures came out so well I almost didn’t post them because I thought they looked a little too real. But I decided their ghastly smile would make a fun and […]

King Cake Jello Shots

Mardi Gras starts this Tuesday! So before you go giving up anything for Lent, why not partake in some indulgent jello shots. Modeled after the traditional Mardi Gras King Cake, these tiny, crown-shaped treats are made with sweetened condensed milk, cake flavored vodka and a hint of lemon. Have a happy Fat Tuesday!

Strawberry Candy Cane

Christmas is a time for cheer, and nothing brings joy to adults and children alike than a jiggly gelatin mold. Modeled after the classic candy cane but with a strawberry twist, this dessert is made with layers of sweet, creamy mint and fresh strawberry puree. The delightful flavor combination is sure to put smiles on […]

Cadbury Irish Creme Eggs

To help celebrate Easter at Katharine’s Easter Champagne Brunch party this weekend, I concocted these little Cadbury Creme Egg inspired jello shots. Jello jiggler style chocolate eggs cut from a tiny egg shaped cookie cutter are spiked with a generous amount of Irish Cream and topped with a sweetened condensed milk yoke. These super fun little treats are sure to be […]

Peppermint Patty (with Schnapps)

It wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s Day without some green jello shots! For this year’s drunken festivities, I decided to take it a step further with these little Peppermint Patty treats. Made with sweetened condensed milk and sitting atop a chocolate wafer, Peppermint Schnapps give these mini jellos their flavor and a little kick. Check out […]

Bourbon Banana Pudding

Sadly the holidays are over and now all we have to look forward to is a long, cold winter… and jello! An adult version of the classic childhood favorite, this pudding from scratch is made with ripe banana, sweetened condensed milk, and a splash of bourbon. Spiced with cinnamon and garnished with mini vanilla wafers, the flavor […]

Coquito

Inspired by Margarita, my Puerto Rican con-worker (at my non-jello day job), and her annual holiday offering of Coquito, Puerto Rico’s version of eggnog, I made a Coquito Jello for this year’s office holiday party. Loaded to the gills with rum (at least the way Margarita makes it) it has a creamy base of coconut milk and sweetened condensed milk and is spiced […]

Grasshopper Pie

I made this jello a last year for St. Paddy’s day and it was such a hit it deserves revisiting. Green and minty with a little liqueur to warm the heart, this jello mold just feels like Christmas to me. Crème de menthe and sweetened condensed milk top off a chocolaty cookie crust. This recipe appears in my book Hello […]

Peaches & Cream

As seen on CBS Sunday Morning (air date 9-9-12), this retro treat is made with a layer of sweetened condensed milk topped with peach gelatin and sliced peaches arranged like a bright sunflower. This is one of many recipes included in my new book Hello, Jell-O!: 50+ Inventive Recipes for Gelatin Treats and Jiggly Sweets.  The recipe is below […]

Color Me Jello

Inspired by the colorfully creative and talented Katie Sokoler and her blog Color Me Katie I decided to make a super bright and shiny Color Me Jello. And since it was Katie’s birthday and since she lives in my neighborhood, I decided I’d just pop by and present it to her. Tickled, she took some fun photos […]

Chocolate Raspberry Cream Jello

A little something special for Valentine’s day this year, I made this multi-layer heart shaped mold. The top layer is raspberries suspended in clear gelatin over a layer of sweetened condensed milk over a layer of raspberry gelatin over a crust of chocolate cookie crumbs. This was no easy feat so I hope my someone special loves it. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Human Heart Jello

Its that time of year again, Halloween! Its one of my favorite holidays and also the birthday of my friend Art. For this year’s annual Halloween/Birthday bash I wanted to make something extra creepy. I found this human heart shaped mold on eBay and filled it with black cherry gelatin, sweetened condensed milk, and vodka.  A little melted down strawberry jelly for […]

Baby Shower Jello

Commissioned by my friend Jill for her friend Ellen’s baby shower I created this cute little pastel jello. The traditional baby color bands are comprised of lemon, blueberry, and strawberry gelatin and mixed with sweetened condensed milk. Congratulations Ellen!

Orange Spice & Cream

Fall is setting in in Brooklyn and with it come the fall-time jellos. This one is a remake of the Orange Spice Jello with a middle layer of orange gelatin, peaches, and rum, spiced with cloves, cinnamon, and the zing of vinegar. In addition, it has a top and bottom layer of sweetened condensed milk flavored with peach syrup and a touch […]
