Peaches & Cream

As seen on CBS Sunday Morning (air date 9-9-12), this retro treat is made with a layer of sweetened condensed milk topped with peach gelatin and sliced peaches arranged like a bright sunflower. This is one of many recipes included in my new book Hello, Jell-O!: 50+ Inventive Recipes for Gelatin Treats and Jiggly Sweets.  The recipe is below […]

Blackberry Mint Julep

Though I consider myself a New Yorker, I was born and raised in the South and this twist on the classic southern cocktail takes me back to my southern roots. Like the traditional cocktail often served at the Kentucky Derby, this jello mold is made with sweet mint and bourbon. Tart blackberries balance out the […]

Watermelon Basil Agar

Not all “jello molds” have to be made from gelatin and not all have to be super, sugary, sweet (although those are good too!). This uncommonly refreshing treat is made with watermelon, basil, and gelled with agar-agar, a vegan gelatin alternative. I don’t work with agar very often but I did devote an entire chapter it in […]

Pretzel Peach Pie

Sweet and salty deserts are all the rage, and while you may not think to combine such flavors the outcome is really quite amazing. A little saltiness from the crunchy pretzel crust of this pie really brings out the sweet flavor of the peaches with a cool layer of creamy cheese in the middle. The […]

Watermelon Limeade

Watermelon is the perfect compliment to summer and this sweet and tangy jello mold delivers on refreshing summer flavor. Reminiscent of the watermelon Italian ices you remember from the ice cream truck or the pool snack bar as a kid but with an adult twist. It is made with fresh watermelon and tart lime juice with a little splash of vodka for an […]

Jello Study

Visual artist Rafaël Rozendaal, who uses the internet as his canvas, created Jello Time that I featured way back in 2009. I recently came across another jello animation he created as a guest post for Today and Tomorrow. If you stare at it long enough, it really is quite hypnotic.  His other notable works unrelated to jello that I really love are Unlike […]

Sparkling Summer Berries

With the 4th of July BBQs right around the corner, this festive and fruity jello mold is the perfect compliment to your backyard get-together. Sweet strawberries and blueberries are suspended in refreshing and bubbly ginger ale. A little rum makes it a party favorite for the adults with an option make it non-alcoholic if you […]

Nut ‘n’ Honey

A departure from the usual fruited jello molds I create, this earthy, hearty, jello mold is made with almonds, pecans, and rolled oats all held together with sweet honey and brown sugar. The recipe for this can be found in my new book, Hello Jell-O!.

A Sweet Evening with Word Books

Attention New York based fans! Come get your copy of Hello Jell-O! signed and sample some jiggly sweets from my book at an event at WORD Books in Greenpoint Brooklyn next Wednesday evening. I’ll be dispensing some jello tips, tricks, and wisdom along side Fany Gerson, author of Paletes. More information can be found on the […]

Tequila Sunrise

The summer sun has officially risen over Brooklyn and this Memorial Day weekend was a scorcher (which meant I got in some much needed beach and biking time). To celebrate the holiday weekend and the love of the sun I made this Tequila Sunrise jello which was served at a backyard BBQ. Its gradient layers are made with real orange juice, silver tequila, and […]

Bourbon Fog

Typically served as a punch, Bourbon Fog is made with equal parts coffee, vanilla ice cream, and Bourbon. The jello version has less bourbon so as not to overpower the main attraction- ice cream- but still manages to pack a little buzz. As a birthday request from Shane, he wanted something with ice cream and […]

Jalapeño Margarita

For Cinco de Mayo this year I wanted to make something sweet but also a little spicy. This cocktail inspired jello is made with homemade jalapeño infused tequila, lime juice, and triple sec. The tangy flavor packs a hot punch. It will be served this weekend at Sarah’s housewarming “Sarah de Mayo” rooftop party. Have a […]

Peach Cobbler Cocktail

After an especially mild New York winter an early summer is starting to set in (hopefully I am not cursing myself into a May snow storm by saying this). For the summer I want to create a series of fancy cocktail inspired jello molds. This recipe, adapted from a cocktail recipe inspired by a dessert recipe, is a good transition with its […]

Color Me Jello

Inspired by the colorfully creative and talented Katie Sokoler and her blog Color Me Katie I decided to make a super bright and shiny Color Me Jello. And since it was Katie’s birthday and since she lives in my neighborhood, I decided I’d just pop by and present it to her. Tickled, she took some fun photos […]

There’s Always Room

I recently got an email from Kristin Tercek, the very talented artist behind Cuddly Rigor Mortis, thanking me for serving as inspiration for her latest painting There’s Always Room.  Honored and amazed, I had to share her rendition of how fruit ends up suspended in a jello mold– it plunges in from the high dive of course! Her […]

Easter Marshmallows

After seeing this recipe for homemade Easter Peeps, I decided to try the recipe for myself. My sister gave me these little barnyard animal shaped molds a while ago and I thought they would work well for an Eastery, spring-time creation.  Making homemade marshmallows is easier than you would think, although if there is one thing I have learned from […]

Hamster-size Hello Jell-O!

A couple of Christmases ago I photographed Edie the Hamster ready to serve her own jello mold creation (this shortly after her infamous subway ride). Now her successor, Zoey, attempts a jello recipe for herself after receiving her very own hamster-sized copy of my new book Hello Jell-O!. Get your human-sized copy today!

Chai Tea Panna Cotta

Served recently a dinner party with new friends, these Chai Tea Panna Cotta cups were a huge success. They are made with brewed chai tea bags, heavy cream, and garnished with chocolate wafers and blackberries.  The recipe for these is in my new book which, as of last week, is now on sale!

The long wait is over and my new recipe book Hello Jell-O! is now on sale! The book features some favs from the blog as well as a whole bunch of brand new recipes and lots of bright colorful photos. The Recipe Club has been hard at work promoting my book and is sponsoring a giveaway on their Facebook page.  Enter to […]

Orange Gin Jello

To celebrate the dual birthdays of Laura and Chris this weekend, I decided to experiment with a liquor haven’t tried using before, gin. I mixed it with a little triple sec and ginger ale to sweeten it up and suspend mandarin oranges throughout. The result is a zingy, citrusy jello mold that will definitely give you a little buzz and put […]
