May Flowers 4

April showers, bring May flowers, right? That would be true except this spring has been so unseasonably cold that every time we have a warm day and I think spring is finally here, it gets cold again and the flowers refuse to bloom. Never-the-less, June is almost upon us and it’s time for Memorial Day weekend cookouts! So I present you with May Flowers jello shots. Made with a generous dose of St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, gin, and grapefruit juice, these shots are flowery, sweet, and a little tart. Have a safe and warm holiday weekend!

Margarita Jello Cactus

Spring is just now starting to show itself here in Brooklyn and Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner. Celebrate this holiday of Mexican heritage and pride with some little cactus shaped margarita jello shots. These are made with silver tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, and are garnished with a little Twizzler cactus bloom. These jello shots will be enjoyed this weekend at a Cinco de Mayo rooftop party.

Cadbury Irish Creme Egg

To help celebrate Easter at Katharine’s Easter Champagne Brunch party this weekend, I concocted these little Cadbury Creme Egg inspired jello shots. Jello jiggler style chocolate eggs cut from a tiny egg shaped cookie cutter are spiked with a generous amount of Irish Cream and topped with a sweetened condensed milk yoke. These super fun little treats are sure to be a big hit. Have a Happy Easter!

Peppermint Patty

It wouldn’t be St. Patty’s Day without some green jello shots! For this year’s drunken festivities, I decided to take it a step further with these little Peppermint Patty treats. Made with sweetened condensed milk and sitting atop a chocolate wafer, Peppermint Schnapps give these mini jellos their flavor and a little kick. Check out the recipe to make your own and don’t drink too much green beer this weekend!

Bourbon Banana Pudding

Sadly the holidays are over and now all we have to look forward to is a long, cold winter… and jello! An adult version of the classic childhood favorite, this pudding from scratch is made with ripe banana, sweetened condensed milk, and a splash of bourbon. Spiced with cinnamon and garnished with mini vanilla wafers, the flavor is sweet and warm. This dessert is perfect for keeping warm during those longer winter months.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

According to New York Magazine, pumpkin is the new bacon and the Pumpkin Spiced Latte is really trending this fall. With the return of Starbucks’ seasonal favorite and slew of imitation recipes making the rounds, I decided I best jump on the bandwagon and make my very own pumpkin spice latte jello. More like a custard than a jello, it is made with milk, pumpkin, and coffee. Allspice and cinnamon give it a cozy, warm flavor and whipped cream rounds it out. And best part is that 4 servings of this jello mold will cost you less than a trip to Starbucks. Happy Fall and Happy Halloween!

Though I consider myself a New Yorker, I was born and raised in the South and this twist on the classic southern cocktail takes me back to my southern roots. Like the traditional cocktail often served at the Kentucky Derby, this jello mold is made with sweet mint and bourbon. Tart blackberries balance out the sweetness and create a surprisingly cool and refreshing treat perfect for relaxing all day on the front porch of your southern farmhouse. Or if you’re like me, on the roof of your apartment building. I wrote this recipe especially for the Cooking Channel where you can find the recipe complete with process photos.

I rang in the new year over the weekend with a little something boozy from the book.  This very rich and creamy Mudslide jello, fashioned after the cocktail, is made with generous amounts of coffee and Irish cream liqueurs, heavy cream, and a touch of vodka. A little cocoa powder tops it off (whipped cream and/or chocolate syrup would also be good).  Have a happy New Year everyone!

My friends Art and Marty recently returned from gallivanting around Europe, Berlin and Amsterdam mostly, and brought me some Euro-gelatin from both destinations.  The German Götter Speise gelatin came in three flavors Himbeer (raspberry), Zitronen (lemon), and Waldmeister, which I assumed was lime by its green color but is actually Woodruff and had an herbal flavor. Combined with a little Vodka I used these gelatins to create rainbow jello shots for a summer rooftop party.

Inspired by the Japanese cherry jelly treat Sakurando, these little cherry bombs explode with flavor. These bite-size jello shots are made from cinnamon flavored schnapps and maraschino cherries, and made a huge impact at Art and Marty’s first BBQ of the season. Happy Spring!

For the last in a series of Halloween jellos made for Kitchen Daily, I made these tropical fruit flavored versions of everyone’s favorite Halloween treat, Candy Corns.  I used sweetened condensed milk, with orange and pineapple flavored gelatin.  A second, larger version of this jello mold was created for this weekend’s festivities, only with the added bonus of rum!  Click to read the full article and learn how to make your own at KitchenDaily.com  Happy Halloween Everyone!

With the passing of the Labor Day weekend and summer drawing to an end, I made these mini watermelons to commemorate the occasion. Made with lime rinds, strawberries, and vodka with little black sesame seeds, these make fun little “jello shots”.  I have seen versions of this all over the web, most recently and notably on another jello blog called My Jello Americans. This is just one of an amazing array of tiny “jello shots” from the creators of that blog made with their own infused liquors in fun, creative shapes. The recipe for this can be found in a preview of my new book here.

Coffee Kahlua Jello

Mini Molds 2I ordered a baker’s dozen of these little molds specifically for this jello recipe.  Instant coffee, sweetened condensed milk, and Kahlua make up these small but very rich mini jellos topped with whipped cream and shaved chocolate. The recipe for this will appear in my new book.
