Bourbon Fog

Typically served as a punch, Bourbon Fog is made with equal parts coffee, vanilla ice cream, and Bourbon. The jello version has less bourbon so as not to overpower the main attraction- ice cream- but still manages to pack a little buzz. As a birthday request from Shane, he wanted something with ice cream and coffee. Because its not a party without a little booze, I factored in the bourbon and it was served at his birthday BBQ (and unofficial Spring/Summer kickoff party) last weekend. Happy Birthday Shane!

This exhibition will transform six store front windows in Brooklyn into an artistic candy land with displays of sculptures made of Jell-O, photography of mouthwatering desserts, paintings on vintage recipe books, and Polaroids that will tease your taste buds. The opening reception is this Tuesday evening, December 6th and yours truly will be on hand to serve up some jello treats from the book! If you are in the New York area come out and see me and have a taste of my Green Milk Tea Jello, reminiscent of trendy bubble tea and made with green tea ice cream and blueberries. I’ll have other creations to sample as well. Check out Where Am I Gallery‘s exhibition page for more info and hope to see you there!

For Labor Day weekend I made this refreshing treat perfect for that end-of-summer BBQ. It is made with a layer of cool vanilla ice cream, topped with a layer of minty watermelon and rum. Yum! Party guests devoured it with delight. This recipe will be included in my new book due out February 2012. Happy Labor Day!
Red Bean Jello

Forget about those Red Roses and try Red Beans instead this Valentine’s Day. This heart shaped mold is made with red bean ice cream and trimmed with sweetened condensed milk. Rather than go for the obvious red cherry flavor, I wanted to try something more exotic. Red beans (also known as Azuki) are used in many Asian confections and when made into ice cream produce a sweet and unique favor. This mold, with its quilted texture and ribboned edges, reminds me of one of those cutesy, lace-trimmed, plush hearts you’d get from your junior high sweetheart (or your parents) for Valentine’s. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Recently I took the Jello Show on the road to my sister Kateri‘s in Minneapolis for my niece Sydney’s high school graduation party. My sister found this sunflower mold at a thrift store and had it waiting for me. Jello’s popularity in the mid-west has never wavered since the 60′s and that was evident by its enthusiastic reception at the party. For the event I made this mint chocolate chip ice cream jello topped with sweetened condensed milk. Thank you Kateri and Congratulations Sydney!

Its the 4th of July and nothing says “I love America” like a big ol’ red, white, and blue jello mold. (Take that Canada!!) This mold is strawberry jello with chopped strawberries, lemon jello with vanilla ice cream, blueberry jello with blueberries, and blueberry jello with Cool Whip.
