With the 4th of July BBQs right around the corner, this festive and fruity jello mold is the perfect compliment to your backyard get-together. Sweet strawberries and blueberries are suspended in refreshing and bubbly ginger ale. A little rum makes it a party favorite for the adults with an option make it non-alcoholic if you decide you want to share with the kiddies. I wrote this recipe especially for the Cooking Channel where you can find the recipe complete with process photos. Happy July 4th!

Marbled Stained Glass Jello

Inspired by the Stained Glass Jello, I decided to get a little experimental with this year’s 4th of July jello. For these red, white, and blue mini molds I heated up chunks of stained glass jello, pre-made in a pan, directly in the molds themselves over the gas stove. It only took a few seconds for the jello to melt down enough to form to the mold and for the colors to run into this beautiful marbled pattern. For added patriotic enthusiasm, the strawberry and blueberry gelatin is made with a little vodka, all suspended in sweet and creamy condensed milk. Happy 4th of July!
Jello Nest Eggs

Whether you are planning for the future or just for this weekend’s Easter dinner, these little jello nest eggs would make the perfect dessert. The eggs are made from lime, cherry, and blueberry gelatin mixed with sweetened condensed milk. And the nests are made from melted white chocolate chips and toasted coconut molded into foiling baking cups. To mold the eggs, I drilled holes in the top of mini plastic Easter eggs through which I poured the jello and taped up the seams until it was time to hatch… I mean, unmold. Have a Happy Easter!
Berry 4th of July Jello

For the holiday weekend I made this festive star-shaped mold with blueberries and strawberries set in a layer of clear gelatin. The white base layer is Guanabana flavored gelatin brought back for me from Mexico by Art. (More exotic Mexican flavors to follow). The flavor was fruity and refreshing, perfect for the very hot weekend. Happy 4th of July!

This year for John’s 5th annual Easy Breezy Birthday Brunch I made one of the more difficult and beautiful jello creations, the Rainbow Jello mold. This classic favorite is compromised of 10 layers and 5 different flavors, each with a clear fruity layer and a creamy opaque layer of sweetened condensed milk. As you can see, John loved it and so did everyone else. The recipe for this can be found in a preview of my new book. Happy Birthday John and congratulations on another successful Easy Breezy!
LOST Jello

A fan since the first episode aired, I had to commemorate the series finale of LOST with jello. For a LOST themed BBQ and finale viewing party I made this representation of the island with pistachio (for the land), coconut (for the sandy beach), and blueberry (for the water).

Triple berry salad is a classic Jello recipe, but mine has a few twists. This sparkling treat is made with cranberry gelatin and tart pomegranate juice, along with vodka and club soda and is filled with blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. It was served at a birthday BBQ to a crowd who had never tired my jello before and was devoured by a frenzied swarm of eager party goers. (I’ve never seen jello sell-out quite like this.) The recipe for this can be found in my new book. Thank you guys for your jello enthusiasm!

Laura (aka Lil Mama) brought this recipe to my attention. Its is constructed of blocks of strawberry, lime, and blueberry Jello suspended in a mixture of Knox and what I consider to be God’s gift to gelatin: sweetened condensed milk. MmmMmm!
Expect more sweetened condensed milk jellos because its really very amazing.

This blueberry jello mold with blueberries and vanilla frozen yogurt was a hit with the kids at Laura from Long Island‘s pool party (and a nice compliment to the pool itself).

After a few practice jellos and unmolding mishaps to gruesome to show photos of, I created my first successful Jel-ring jello mold. This mold is strawberry Jello with chopped blueberries and strawberries throughout and a Cool Whip layer on the bottom.

This was a hit at Hoover’s BBQ. Its top layer is lime jello with vodka and blueberries and the bottom layer is tonic and Cool Whip. So far I’ve been using household items as jello molds, this being a Gladware container, but my first real jello mold is on order.
